Welcome To Zingstruments!

I am zing

Hi, I'm Zing

Hey there.

Playing music is one of the best things you can do in life

But here's the thing:

Mastering a musical instrument is a lifelong pursuit. It ain't easy to become a great musician.

But it is possible. Yes, you. YOU could be great.

You don't need talent. Yes, you heard right. You don't need to be some kind of child prodigy.

Talent is over-rated. How many times has a talented person never reached their potential? Plenty of times. That's how many.

You need discipline, perseverance, and a lot of hard work.

But you can get there. That's the most important thing.

Ready for the ride?

Common Myths About Playing Music

First, I want to dispel some myths about playing musical instruments that I keep seeing. These are some of the self-limiting thoughts we see:

Myth 1: I am too old to learn

I can't tell you the amount of times I've come across people who say "I'd love to learn to play a musical instrument, but I'm too old now. You have to be young to learn an instrument, don't you"

never too old to learn

Well actually NO, YOU DON'T!!!!

And the ridiculous thing is I know people in their twenties saying that!

I repeat, you are never too old to learn a new instrument.

Never, ever.

Science even backs it up:

Neuroscientist Norman Weinberger at University of California did some groundbreaking research on the auditory system and the brain.

"A lot of people believe the brain isn't very plastic after puberty. In fact, the brain maintains its ability to change," he says.

"Is it as easy to learn something when you're 65 as it is at 5? No.

But can it be done? Yes."

Myth 2: It will take me years to get to a good level

Getting to a level where you are good enough to play music ANY INSTRUMENT isn't as hard as people think.

it will take me years to learn

Of course, it's unlikely you're going to become the next Elton John if you've not even touched a piano until you're 28, but heck with a bit of focused effort you will be surprised just what you can achieve.

There are so many ways to learn guitar these days that you can fast track your learning too.

Myth 3: I don't have the time to dedicate to learning a new instrument

dont have the time to learn

Right, let's cut to the chase. Whenever someone says they don't have the time, I read that to mean they have prioritized other things. It's not that they physically don't have the time. Of course they do. We're all given the same 24 hours a day. How we choose to use them is entirely up to us.

Look at your daily routine and figure out which activities could be reduced in the time they take or dropped altogether, freeing up time to learn your instrument. TV is one of the biggest time killers of all. How about reducing your TV intake and dedicate 30 minutes per day to your new found hobby?!

Myth 4: I don't know where to start

where do i start

The internet is your best and worst friend when it comes to learning to play a musical instrument. These days we have a whole treasure trove of learning resources at our disposal at the click of a button. All you need to do is type in 'how to learn.....(insert instrument)' into google and you'll be met with pages and pages of instruction.

The problem is it's very, very easy to get lost in amongst all this information soup!

Well that's where we come in. Zingstruments is here to help you out by giving you all the steps you need to get going with your chosen instrument.

But where to start? Which instrument should you consider taking up?

Which instrument should I learn?

Firstly, it's important to try as many instruments before you jump in.
